Community | Double drive and lay off

Nicola Buchan Coach, Scotland

DESCRIPTION

Simulating a centre pass, there are two feeders (C and GS in this case) taking the centre pass. The players in the middle (WA and GA) should drive out at a slight angle (avoid running too wide) to receive the ball. The feeder will pass to one of the driving players and the other will move up court (in this case, GA) to receive the next pass to lay it off to the next player (GS). The drill then repeats from the other feeder (GS).

COACHING POINTS

Ensure driving players run at a sharp angle so they are coming forward for the ball as opposed to going out too wide as this would often mean that wider players could get closed down by defenders. Footwork - land on outside foot when coming onto the ball and pivot to the outside to avoid defenders intercepting or closing down the next pass.
