Post up - Drop Step Footwork a...

This drill needs 1 passer and 1 player posting up ready to shoot the basketball. The pass will be made into the post, once the player receives the ball they will drop step, jump stop and shoot a power move off the backboard.(Watch the video to see the footwork of the move) The passer will become the shooter and the next person in line will become the passer.

With your knees bent and your back bent to 20 degrees, drop step then turn, bounce the ball then chin the ball up to the power box and being square to the board, shoot. Do twenty of these then move to the other side and do the same thing. If you are not doing every aspect of the move correctly then do each part of the move more slowly. Form and technique then speed up the move and work on quickness.

Set players up as shown in video clip. Offensive player will post up on the side of the court the ball is on. The defensive player will try and stop the pass being made into the post, by half fronting, full fronting etc. When the ball is passed across the court the players will continue the same thing on the other side. When the ball is passed into the post, the players will play 1v1.

Post up position Passing Techn...

This is the position a player needs to have when positing up to receive the basketball. The player needs a wide stance, knees bent and hips low. The hand they want to receive the basketball with should be extended out away from the defender. The other arm, should act as a barrier between the post player and defender. This bar also helps with balance and movement.

There will be 1 passer and 1 Post up/Shooter. The player posting up will receive the basketball and drop step baseline. Once they have got close to the basket they will then perform a reverse pivot(the player will pivot on their inside foot). When the player has done the reverse pivot they will shoot a jump hook.

The player will flash up to the high post. From the high post the player will square up to the basket, sweep the ball to the left side and attack 1 bounce to finish with a left hand lay-up.

Once the offensive player is in front they will have a very wide stance, showing a hand target where they want to receive the basketball.

Pull up about 4 meters out and shoot a drop shot. Imagine having to shoot over bigger people so put a little bit more height on the ball to stimulate a game situation. Make sure this drill is done in both directions changing hands each time. Do this drill from anywhere on the court beyond the perimeter three point line. Use different changes in direction dribbles like behind the back, through the legs and spin dribbles. Take shots from 4-8 feet.

The coach or a teammate places the ball on the floor. Facing away from the basket, player 1 (attacker) stands in front of player 2 (defender). Player 1 then picks up the ball and attempts to get into position to shoot.

The player underneath the basket begins with a ball and tosses if off the backboard, simulating a rebound. They then pass to the point guard on the wing and sprints forward, while the player on the wing dribbles with quick feet through the cones. Once the player dribbling has reach the end of the cones, they will then pass to the player on the run for a lay up.

From the block do a spin back, drop step to the power box, lift fake from the chin position, jump step to a hook. Concentrate on not bringing the ball down below the shoulders. When shooting learn to keep the ball up from the chin position. If you move that ball even a centimeter away from that body the defender will be able to knock it away. Do twenty each side of the double drop step.

2 on 2 - Transition Drill Pass...

Two players (blue) with the ball start from the half way line. They're playing against Red 1 and Red 2. After the attackers have had their shot the 2 defenders must box out and claim the rebound. Once the drill is complete players rotate: Attackers become the new defenders, the defending pair leave the court and swap with a new pair who are the new attackers! Continue until every pair has had a go.

There will be 1 passer and 1 Post up/Shooter. The player posting up will receive the basketball and drop step middle. Once they have got to the middle, the player will reverse pivot on their inside foot and shoot a jump hook with their outside hand.

Players take it in turn to v cut / flash across the lane to the low post area. Upon arriving, post up correctly and receive pass from passer. Player will then perform the designated move.Inside pivot - jump shot. Front pivot, pump fake, step through.

Post up part 1

Make sure that feet are in front of the defenders feet, back is bent, knees are bent, and as wide as possible.Keep good balance. Keep arms wide and target hand up. Post up on the block and using a toss back or spin back, catch the spin back and meet the quick pass. Always chin the ball when close to the basket and keep it there at all times unless going to shoot or dribble. If pressured by a double team then pivot away from the pressure but keep the ball chinned.
