how can you defend a tall shooter that stands and puts their arm up indicating a lob pass and holds you back with their hip?
Hi Ekeesha,
Holding shooters can always be a difficult task for any defenders, however there is simple way to overcome this!
I have attached a video explaining how to defend a holding shooter, essentially the best way to mark a holding shooter is to prevent her setting up in the first place. Get your defence to maintain a narrow foot base and quick feet in order to keep moving around your shooter. This will make the shooter keep having to move and try to re-set up in a different position, it will also mean the ball carrier cannot clearly see where the shooter wants the ball.
A good way to practice this is with the drills I have selected below:
Moving round attacker
1 vs 2 Guarding Ball Side
Hope this helps.

Tight markers win when attackers run in straight lines. Teach your players to dodge, change pace and time their drive so they get free when the ball is ready.
When everyone chases the ball, nobody is free. Teach your team to spread out, offer two options and clear space so the ball moves cleanly down court.
