I have a team of 11 and 12 year olds. They have all played netball for at least three years. Their general ball skills are pretty good but they keep "running" with the ball. What are the best drills to break this habit? Liz
Hi Liz Something I have tried that has worked reasonably well.. Set up a hoolahoop/draw a circle on the ground with chalk. Have the girls run and jump into the hoop with 2 feet. Then have them land on one foot.. they won't keep moving because they will end up outside the ring. Then you can introduce a ball being passed to them as they do the above activity, enforcing the point of stopping movement when the ball is caught Caitlin
I try to teach the girls to "jump the puddles" Even my 14s/15s still step. I place cones (not witches hats, but the low circle ones) on the ground and pass it to then at the cones or just passed. Both at the chest and above the head.
for my girls I have them running around for a minute and randomly blow the whistle so they must stop.Everytime they stop I walk aroud and see who has good balance by nudging them once they have that right I move on to they stop then pivot to the left then continue and they pivot to the right then continue for them to stop and do left right then a 360
Thanks Leigh, Phil and Caitlin. Will give these a try this week. Liz
