Replayed ball - how do you umpire this?

Some umpires blow every ball that's bounced into hands - is this correct?Some umpires allow the girls to bounce the ball as long as they are not gaining ground up the court. Does anyone have a clear definition of how to umpire this rule?

Replay Ball is one of those rules that is not black and white as there is an element of using your own judgement. Did the player have any control of the ball before releasing/dropping it? Was that a controlled bounce or bat to themselves? This is why it makes a it a difficult rule to umpire. And what is the umpires interpretation of the rule itself? Below i have cut and paste the rule from Australia (pretty sure the UK have the same rules as us) to try and help you to interpret it. But at the end of the day, all you can do is teach the players what you believe the rule is and then if they get picked up for it, then talk to the umpire on a break, but you still have to accept their ruling.

A player MAY

  1. (i) catch the ball with one or both hands;

  2. (ii) gain or regain control of the ball if it rebounds

    from the Goalpost (refer Rule 1.2.1);

  3. (iii) bat or bounce the ball to another player without first having possession of it.;

(iv) tip the ball in an uncontrolled manner once or more than once and then;

(a) catch the ball; or

(b) direct the ball to another player;

(v) having batted the ball once, either catch the ball or direct the ball to another player;

(vi) having bounced the ball once, either catch the ball or direct the ball to another player;

So technically you can attempt to catch a ball and either bounce or tip it to another player, or regain and then pass the ball to another player, or direct the ball to another player.
