I want to do a getting to know you netball based activity with a newly formed team of 9/10 year olds. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Hi Julianne,
I would advise having a fun session to begin with to get them working together in small teams and learning about each other. For example, the `under-over` game- split the players into teams and they form a straight line, the front player will pass the ball over their head, the next under their legs, the next over their head and so on. When it gets to the back of the line, that player runs to the front and does the same. The team to get their team back to the original formation the quickest wins.
Other similar games or netball tasks will work well. For example, get the players in teams and line up in a row, each with a ball (bar the last player). In the diagram below, the blue player with the ball will pass to the first red player - at the same time this player will throw their ball into the air - they will have to catch and pass off the first ball (from the blue player) to the next player on the right before catching their own ball. The aim of the game is to catch and pass the ball off without the ball in the air dropping to the ground.
These simple games will get the players laughing and conversing with each other, building team cohesion.
Hope this helps.
