DESCRIPTION

2 x 20m x 10m Channels

5 Defenders in each channel, spaced 5m apar

The attacking team of 5 players must beat each defender in turn by running or passing and score a try once all 5 defenders have been beaten. Defenders are only allowed to move sideways.

COACHING POINTS

Support players stay behind the ball

Attacker - trys to run around the defender, passes the ball if someone else is in a better position.

Defender - Keep head and shoulders above the waist

Head up, look at the tag.

4. Decision Making

Things are about to get a lot tougher in this penultimate tag session - more defenders mean more decisions for your attackers - can they think fast enough to find the space?

OFTEN USED WITH...

Team of 5 v 1 v 3 v 1:

Change the shape of the defenders. Instead of a single line, one behind the other, try 1 then 3 then 1 or 1 2 2.

Tag Rugby

Bull Dog:

Large Grid 30m x 30m. Start with 5 defenders in the middle, everybody else stands at one end of the grid wearing tags.

On the coach's call all attackers try to run past the 5 defenders and get to the opposite side of the grid.

Attackers that are tagged join the defenders in the middle, the game keeps going until there are no attackers left.

Tag Rugby

Game - 6 vs 4:

Pitch is 20m x 20m. All players wearing Tag Belts

Start the game with a free pass, defenders must start behind the half way line

Attacking players must try to run past defenders to score a try. If tagged, the attacker must pass the ball to a team mate. After a tackle, the defenders must give the tag back, stay on their own side of the ball and NOT intercept or obstruct the pass.
