Community | Changing the grounded foot

Sam Kirby Coach, Australia

DESCRIPTION

The aim of this is to encourage players to feel comfortable landing on either foot when catching the ball. Setup Have players in pairs. Have one player stand on the baseline with the ball, and set a cone about 5 metres away. This is where the second player will start from. Drill The players at the cones are first instructed which foot they are to land on first (left, right or both feet). The player at the cone then runs towards the player with the ball. The ball is thrown to them, and the player must catch the ball, land on the correct foot, and not step. Players then jog backwards to the cone, and repeat landing on the same foot 5 times. The landing foot can then be changed. Players then swap with the throwers.
