DESCRIPTION

  • Working in groups of 3 with a ball.
  • Feeder and 2 attacking players
  • The attacking players need to be staggered so that one can see the other.
  • Feeders throws the ball up to catch themselves to set the timing.
  • The attacking players have to either run straight towards the feeder OR at an angle; they cannot do the same thing!
  • The attacking player in front should make a quick decision and be definite in the movement.
  • The attacking player behind should then take the other option.
  • The feeder can choose either attacking player to receive the ball.
  • That attacking player should catch the ball and turn away to face down the court.
  • The attacking player who did not receive the ball, should change direction and run down the court angled so as to be able to receive the ball in a straight line ahead of the attacking player with the ball.
  • Repeat for a specified number of times then swap in the feeder.
  • Progressions:
  • Add in a defender, who will choose to man mark one of the attacking players, starting at about 70% effort.
  • Intensify effort of the defender

COACHING POINTS

  • Quick and definite decision so the player behind can read off and make an alternate offer
  • Even starting from behind, that offer must be definite and committed!
  • Taking feet with you on the move, using arms to run, reaching out to grab in a ball placed ahead without leaping.
  • Quick and definite decision so the player behind can read off and make an alternate offer
  • Even starting from behind, that offer must be definite and committed!
  • Feet under body at all times, using arms to run, the reaching out to grab ball in.
  • Player receiving the ball, turn in the air if possible, or pivot fully, quickly and balanced to have full vision down the court.
  •  Player who did not receive the ball, make a sharp change in direction to cut back, looking to take the next pass further down the court, ideally in a straight line.
  • Ball should be placed ahead of player in a straight-line (rather than cross court - this becomes more important when defender added).
