u 17 side of 14???
seeking the opinion re selecting a side of 14 in u 17 to keep all girls of that age in same team and selecting 9 for the u 17 side and the rest to play in other senior teams on a weekly basis in a football / netball comp as opposed to selecting 9 in an u 17 side and the rest in one of the senior teams on a permanent basis for the season
around the world and Sportplan's team of Experts.
i have seen something similar at my daughters club. there are some more senior girls (15-17yr olds) playing with players over 20. depeding if you want to be competive or not in the U17s, you could chose the 9 players that are most closely suited in ability to make your team, and then the other 5 (depending on ability) into the senior team. but be really careful about putting someone who is low in ability to play with older girls as it could kill any love they have for the game if they dont feel that they are contributing to the team. any chance of making 2 u17 teams with all of these players and bringing up a couple of players from other teams to make 2 teams of 8?

thanks leanne your comments are very helpful and relevant to my experience, however i would still love coach feedback on the idea of is it possible to use all players in u 17 side and play a different 9 each week and rotate the other 5 into senior teams not necessarily in an even rotation but at least give all girls some games in u 17 side
in more ways than one
Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
