what is stage one defence? do how do you perform stage one defence? is it easy to set up?
i would suggest stage one defence would be in front defence, or shadow defence. have your defender stand in front of an attacker in between 2 cones and the attacker starts slowly moving from side to side between the 2 cones and the defender has to keep with her. ensure the defender is slightly to one side of the attacker to always keep them in their sight and that their footwork is small side to side movements to ensure when the attacker changes direction that the defender can keep up with them. increase the intensity of the movement of the attacker and then eventually add in a feeder pass for the defender to intercept.
in more ways than one

Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
