Do you have to catch the ball or can you just bat it with your hand to another player?
You can bat the ball to another player and you can bounce the ball in an uncontrolled manner and then bat to another player which frequently gets penalised (incorrectly I might add) as replaying the ball. I would always encourage attempting to catch the ball then pass but on rare occasions batting may be a quick way to move an uncontrolled ball to a free player.
i agree with Janets answer.
I've been umpiring my daughters netball team this year and as per the rules that we were taught Janets answer is how we were advised to deal with this situation - diffcult part on that is once both hands are in contact with the ball more then once though its a replay ball - if they miss the initial catch then bounce and bat with one hand its fine but as soon as second hand comes into contact with the ball at the same time as the first its a replay under nz junior rules
No you can not bat it then catch it if you bat it to another play then it is fine but if you catch it the rule "bat bat and catch" comes into play it is the international rule of umpiring
UNCONTROLLED is the important word when considering whether a ball has been replayed.
Hi, the playing rules set down by IFNA are rules 13.1 (iii) a player may bat or bounce the ball to another player without first having possession of it; and 13.1 (v) having batted the ball once, either catch the ball or direct the ball to another player

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
