Where do I start with coaching 5year olds completely new to the game of netball. I am also new to coaching!
Start by keeping things very basic. little games like "squash the spider" to help them learn pivoting. Basically, they run forward, stop, push up on toe and turn with other leg as if they are squashing a spider. Tag, where they are in a group situation, you put two players into the middle of a group of players and the two that are in have to try and "tag" the players running around by throwing the ball too each other, using netball rules, i.e. no running, passing ball quickly, etc. When they tag someone , then that person is considered "in" as well and they join trying to tag others. Limit the area to maybe the goal circle or third, so as players can't run too far away.
Rose try to get hold of the Net Set Go program developed in Australia. It covers a lot of basic work that would cover you and your little team. Regards Mark Jones
Rose, Get hold of the Netball NZ Publication Future Ferns Netball. It gives detailed Sessions for 2 full years. It is an excellent resource. My junior coaches swear by it.
in more ways than one
No more 50/50 toss-ups. When simultaneous infringements occur, possession now goes to the team that last had the ball. Here's what it means for your coaching.
Train your defenders to win clean turnovers, not just disrupt. The difference between good defenders and great ones is taking the ball, not just touching it.
Netball is experiencing unprecedented growth, with record viewership, evolving rules, and professional leagues expanding worldwide. Here's what 2026 brings for our sport.
