My suggestion is to head straight to the goal third pocket, off court and then back in over the baseline. This way you avoid any possible contact on the way through.

I have found it beneficial to actually stand in front of the defender with my back to them and take the pass, thus forcing them back to their three feet. Once they have moved you pass back out to C/WA and you then move backwards into the defender again or alternatively you can then move sideways into the circle.
