This page has really helped me during the season and I would like more help, I've been asked to start a netball coaching clinic for the girls during recess and I have no clue on what to do. Please help
The coaching clinics I have been to with my daughter involved having one leader and mini coaches. I don't know the age of the group you have been asked to run this for.
You could use the older girls to help be mini coaches split groups into ages or ability have one mini coach attached to each with the leader checking between each group. An example of what you could do is set up stations focusing on different things moving clockwise every 2 mins. Shooting station/skipping/passing etc/Good luck not an easy task but the more you do the easier it will become.Your mini coaches if you choose to have will be a great source of drills etc they no doubt have attended clinics in the past
Thanks a lot Debbie, this has put some perspective into it... My girls are from Prep School to College(U19) I will tell you how it went
i have not done "coaching clinics" persay, but we do netset go, where we have qualified coaches, but they are just 14-16yr olds, and so they are all put with confident coaches, who show them how to handle the kids, organise drills, keep the kids interested, what to do when the drills arent working quite to plan, and how to deal with parents. we get them to see what we do, and help run the drills. then as their confident grow dealing with the kids, then we get them to come up with one or two of their own drills to do, and get them to run it. by the end they should be running the whole thing while you step back. particularly with younger kids, show them how to handle minor injuries, and how to not overreact with sympathy. try not to put youger coaches with older kids. they wont respect them. younger coaches (unless they are extremely competetent and confident coaches) dont have the skills to get the older kids train. always make sure there is a mentor over seeing the trainee coaches that can give them tips, support, and answer any questions.
hope they have fun.
Thank you Lee-Annes... I will surely use this for one day in my programme. You have been a great help, thanks again. Highly appreciated
