Under 11s Footwork
Would anyone happen to have any training ideas to focus on footwork? There are under-11s, so they are pretty good, but some of them are new, so I don't want to single them out during training.
Hi Matilda, for your under-11s, focusing on footwork can be both fun and beneficial. Here are a few drills that can help:
- Landing Shuttles: This drill helps players practice landing on their outside foot while maintaining balance. Players should drive onto the ball and face it at all times.
- Statue of Liberty: In pairs, one player holds a ball aloft while the partner runs, leaps, and snatches the ball, landing with correct footwork. This can be progressed by adding a turn.
- Catch Pivot and Pass Relay: This drill focuses on landing on one foot, pivoting, and passing back. It can start at walking pace and progress to a jog or sprint.
- Balloons Alive: Players use balloons to practice driving out to cones and returning to the middle, keeping the balloon 'alive'.
These drills are engaging and can be adapted to ensure everyone participates without singling out new players. You can find more details and coaching points for these drills on Sportplan.
Happy coaching!
