Hi there we are through to the semi finals this weekend. Our team got pulled up many times for Stepping and contact and I would like to focus on this in our training session tomorrow - they are U10's so nothing to complex please
look up dills based on balance and footwork. so a stationary take off to a 2 footed landing and hold. repeat with pivot. make sure the take off dynamic and not just 2cm in front of them. ensure the landing is balanced, chest up knees bent with toes pointed forward, eyes are up and looking ahead not down at their toes. add a run up and repeat exercise. add a ball in to catch. and then with a pivot and pass. remember the landings must be held for 3 seconds until they are use to keeping their balance.
you can also try passing drills while they are standing on one foot. this helps with balance too.
but most players step because their center of gravity is too far forward when they land, and it is still moving forward after they stop. its about teaching them although they are moving forward onto the ball to catch, that they must keep their chest up in order to stop in a balanced way.
contacting is mainly due to poor spacial awareness and footwork. you wont be able to combat this in one week, but doing drills where they are getting around their players rather than through them, will be beneficial. there are heaps on here.
Thanks Lee-annes, will try this tonight at training, appreciate it

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
