Spacial awareness

Been working for a few weeks with 8/9 year olds and they are not gasping the concept of space and just follow the ball. Any suggetsions for simulations and drills to help?

I find making the zones more restricted can sometimes help. Break the thirds up even more with some cones and limit players to these.
