I have a very short WA who really struggles with her pass when she has a tall defence. Does anyone have any tips on how to get around this or have her improve her pass off?
Short players are usually a lot quicker than the taller players. Try and get her to use speed of movement as a weapon to outpace her defender. Also, make sure her team mates are aware and be able to recognise when she is struggling to pass and give her alternatives. Make sure someone is either behind, so she can pivot and pass back , or someone is available for an easy square pass, then once she has distributed the ball use that speed to lose her defender and get ready to receive the ball again. Suggest she doesn`t always have to think about a forward pass, maybe backwards or sideways is a better option before a good forward pass can be found to gain ground.
WA could also step around her player as she passes off.Steps to same side she passes to.
She needs learn to get in front of her player when calling for the pass. this is called being "ball side". so lots of preliminary moves to get away and infront for that ball.
