Hi I am new to coaching and I am a numbers person thru and thru so wanna have a broad idea of a shooting % I can aim for with my under 12s team even if it's something i don't share with themI know technique is way more important at this age then makes/misses but I just want a broad bench mark to have in mind for the girls if that makes sense. Team is club level but low division and most players are pretty new Thanks
Hi Kayleigh, it is important to focus on developing good shooting techniques rather than worrying too much about shooting percentages. However, having a rough benchmark can be helpful for you as a coach.
For young players at a club level, a shooting accuracy of around 40-50% can be a reasonable target to aim for. This means if they take 10 shots, scoring 4 to 5 goals would be a good performance. As they improve their technique and gain more experience, you can gradually increase this target.
Remember, at this age, the emphasis should be on fun, learning, and improving skills rather than competition. Encouraging them to practice regularly and providing positive feedback will help them improve over time.
If you're looking for drills to help improve their shooting skills, you might find this session plan on developing shooting accuracy and power useful: 1 Developing shooting accuracy and power .

Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
