My Goal Shoot is a tall girl but will not move in front of the defender to get the ball, it is as if she to scared to! She ALWAYS stands behind her partner does anyone have coaching tips to help me? Thanks Sam
she needs to understand and be told, that you cannot always stand still or behind a defender to get a ball. constantly having to tell her to move in front can be annoying. so it may be a good idea to see is understanding what you are asking of her, or ask her some OPEN questions about moving to the ball. take her out of shooting and put another player on court, and show her what is asked of her may help.
Thanks for your help, i will try and approach it that way and see what happens.
Hi sam maybe you should move her into a position were she needs to get in front and maybe do more drills at training that will teach her to get in front.
Have a goaly practice (GA/GS and their defenders in the D and being fed by two passers)session where passes over shoulder high are not allowed and have a GA that is happy to move in front. This should tend to show your tall girls that their may be a time for the hold and lob but there are many times where in front is best! Do the hold and lob practice as well which shows others how to use that method even if they are not as tall!
Hey %3A) I have used a game of netball as a drill for this, but the girls were only allowed to use bounce passes. Anybody who used any other type of pass had to do a lap of the court (could also use pushup etc as punishment), this forces the players to come in front to get the pass. Hope this helps!
