Hi there, I have a very new U/12 team this season, and although they have made incredible progress- they haven't won a game, and are all getting very discouraged. I'm building them up at training and at games- but it's really starting to have a huge impact on their game. They need to see how amazing they can be! How do I keep my girls motivated?
Hi Narelle, have a look at the responses to "half way through season and still haven't won" post for some ideas.
as Janet has in her response to the above question, take the focus off the result and onto another achievable goal. if you kept score of these more personal goals, then the girls would see the progress. even if its a case of, last time you played this team you lost by 20 goals, and this time you lost by 5...look how much better you have become (and maybe remind them, that the other team has also probably improved too, so they have come even further than that too). maybe also give them goal like, if you achieve x, then at training we will do y as a reward (this could be some fun activity that could motivate them to push themselves harder...may train the parents or coach, or a parents vs kids game, or let them play where they want for a quarter...btw you will be surprised at the diversity in players when you do this, and because there is no pressure on them to do well, they tend to shine so much brighter and have fun...which is what sport is all about.)
hope that helps.

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
