Does anyone have any tactics on how our GS can get around a very tall GK and shoot? The GK is 6ft 5" with very long arms and our GS is 5ft 4"!! Any tips or tactics would be appreciated! Thanks :-) x
Hi, this can be a common issue. Below are a few suggestions that may help:
- When shooting against a tall defender, do not hold the back space and ask for a ball overhead as this is very easy to intercept. Instead, hold the front space so there is no defender between you and the ball (shown by the video attached).
- Sometimes the defender tries to push the shooter to the edge of the circle - firstly try to be firm and hold your space, but if not, use the same front hold but when receiving the ball do a split landing so you can get closer to the post for a shot.
- If your shooters are struggling to put a shot up against a tall defender, they can take a step backwards - BUT make sure they do not move their landing foot! Their defender will have to maintain the 3ft distance from the shooters landing foot, but it will allow the shooter more space and take the pressure off the shot.
Hope this helps.
