How to improve you players stepping
Players who step don`t have a balanced landing. Their centre of gravity is too far forward and so they step for balance. So you really should start with balancing drills, and body position. Start on the side line with both feet on the ground and do a large leap forward and land and hold on both feet. Chest needs to be up and eyes forward looking across court not at the ground. repeat drill 5x or until landings are balanced. add in a small run up. ensure knees are bent on landing eyes and chest are up. repeat x5. add in a pass. repeat x5. You can then start drills again but this time landing on one foot and hold the landing. repeat other side. then add in run and landing and then a pass. the important part is getting that chest and eyes up which will help with the overbalancing. once they can do this and hold, then you can add in land and then take one step IF REQUIRED. but to be honest most players tend to land on both feet now for good balance. ensure the feet are under the hips (so not too far apart or together) as this helps keep everything lined up for good balance i.e. ankles, hips shoulders. hope that helps. if we are talking really young players you can have a hoop that they have to land in so that will give them something to help contain their feet. hope that helps.
my chest must be up when catching the ball
in more ways than one
Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
