How should a goal keeper defend when the shooter is under the net?
GK could mark the shooter from behind or to the side, remembering to keep 3 foot from the shooters landing foot.
Thanks Debbie i will give that a go - i always feel like a bit of a spare part when they have managed to get to shoot from under the net and i can't defend in front - i'm plaing tonight so will see how it goes x
I agree with Debbie's answer - if you mark from the side you are in a better position to watch for a dummy-pass to the other shooter, and to jump in front of the shooter as soon as the ball is released to be in the strongest position for the rebound.
I also teach my GK not to mark onto the player... A close GK is food for a good GS as a GS always wants to feel the GK to know where her space is... So if you just move away one feet she will always be searching for you... The other thing is also if you mark tight and just before the ball is released from the feeder you just move away from the GS... Cause the moment the GS doesn't feel you anymore her head starts spinning and searching for you and her heads not on the ball anymore...
