I have recently started coaching a u/12 team, something very new to me as I have always coached older kids or adults. My shooters make a lot of stepping errors specifically after a spilt landing. How do I help them remember which foot they put down first?
if they are landing in split then its not a case of remembering which foot went down first, as the whole point of spliting is to landing with both feet down together, its a case of making sure they land balanced, with both feet landing at the same time.
generally to fix this very common error, is to make the landing really obvious at first. so a big jump up and land in a small split. make sure they land balanced and even. once they feel the difference keep increasing the split until they get it right.
also the timing of the pass could have something to do with it. its not often that its too quick, but it might be in this case if they are splitting too slowly. something else to consider.
hope that helps.
Have you tried using the search bar? This should be at the top of the page - this will find you drills, answered coach's questions (lots of great answers for this) and lesson plans.
Here's the results we got when we searched "stepping". Hope these help!

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
