How do I start teaching my team to zone defend? They are aged u16 and are very able players.
make sure they have their back straight, knees slightly bent - (giving them better stability) and it is a MUST, that they have their hands by their sides, tell them to clutch at their dress. Do a lot of drills which involve sidestepping, (crab-walking) . Start them off slow, then progress to faster side steps. then start to add components of the zoning. For example, 1; side stepping 2; back straight 3; knees bent 4, on their toes, 5; arms by their side - note%3A make sure they do NOT put their elbows out, or force their body or shoulders and such into the opposition otherwise they'll be pulled for forcing or contact. %3A) hope this helps
