I am coaching a primary school team of girls aged 9-11 & some of them have terrible attitudes. They don't get along with each other, complain about almost all the drills we do, positions they play etc. Does anyone have any tips to boost moral & behaviour? It's only early in the season so I'm keen to get on top of it.
Hi Rachel,
It`s key that your players have a good team dynamic to succeed - negative attitudes can lead to negative play! It may be a good idea to sit down with your team and explain that their behaviour and attitude is not acceptable. Lay down what you want to see from them and that you`re not pleased with how they are currently acting. Another idea would be to arrange some team outings or bonding activities, so your players can get to know each other better and hopefully start to get along. It can be as simple as a team meal or bowling - any activity to get them interacting together positively.
Hope that helps, and good luck for the rest of the season!

i agree with the team building days. even sit together and watch a higher grade team play to see what good team work looks like and can achieve. do drills where they all rely on each other to succeed, and ones that require them to all do well or they all fail. when doing warm up running drills, ensure they all stick together to keep that mindset of "we stick together even if it means it takes longer, as you are only as strong as your weakest player" so if they learn to build their weaker players up as a team, they will become stronger as team. also some fun but skill building drills like using an egg to teach them to catch. its heaps of fun, and yet good at teaching them to watch the ball/egg all the way into their hands. anything to engage them into the sport in a positive way. have fun.
