Do you have a drill for 8 year olds to teach them how to get closer to the goal?
the problem with 8 year olds of any sport is that they dont like to pass once they have the ball in the circle. generally because it gets intercepted or the pass back is too slow and is messed up. they are 8, so skills arent normally that developed. but the best thing you can do is play some circle passing games that has them moving around the circle. have them coming from the goal post and driving towards the player while catching. teach them to pass inside the circle by moving out then running back in (clearing). this takes the defence with them and opens the circle. there are heaps of drills in here on how to pass around the circle. you may just need to modify them to the age of your kids. if they wont pass then use a game to only let them shoot when they have passed the ball 3 times outside or within the circle and they are only allowed to shoot when they are in a cirtain area. kids love games. best way to teach them.
