What are ways you can fire up your team before taking the court? during our warm up we seem pumped and ready to go, but soon as the whistle goes we seem to be extremely flat and make way too many mistakes. we are a strong team but we have to play catch up because of our first quarter. are there certain things we can add into our warm up to make sure we are all ready to go? or does anyone have a good speech that always say before a game starts?
Hi, this can be a common issue for teams as they can take a while to get into the game. My best suggestion would be to do your warm up drills at game intensity - obviously when your players are fully warm. This will ensure their body is physically ready and they are thinking at the speed of the game.
I would also suggest completing a half court practice at the end of the warm up - usually using your starting 7. This will help replicate the game to come and will get your players thinking tactically.
As your team often make mistakes early on, in your team talk I would advise them to play a simple game and do the baiscs well. This will enable your players to settle into the game and hopefully generate a lead - then during the quarter and half time intervals, you can give them more specific/individual advice.
Hope this helps, good luck in your future games.

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
