HI Peoples,I am helping with a team of 10 year old girls. They pickup various skills quite well but I noticed when we played another team the other day - the other team was very focused. No mucking about or getting distracted. Our team is hard to talk to them because they are constanly playing with balls, talking between each other etc.The question is how to get this disclipline in the team without being a tyrant?
there are many ways to inspire kids to want to learn, but discipline plays a big part of it. to get kids to be focussed on their drills and listening to their coach means that they have to want to do it. what has the other coach done to get them to behave like that? you dont have to be mean to get a disciplined team, but they need to know that if they dont focuss then they wont like the consequences, which may mean they will have to go for a run, or do burpees, or lose their coach. i am a very strict coach, but i also have fun with my girls. i make sure that i listen to what they want to do, but they also have to listen to me. we have mutual respect. but they also know that if they work hard and do as i ask, they will get some fun stuff too. and if they dont, then the opposite will occur. but do whatever works for you. as long as you are clear with your boundaries and your consequences are followed through and are fair and consistant, then they will work hard to please you.

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
