do you have drills for my defence players in the goal circle especially rebound work
rebounding is all about getting your hands to the ball before anyone else, and the best way to do that is to jump for it. So timing, and getting height are very important skills. Timing is all about practise, but the most important thing to do is be in a good rebounding position: legs slightly bent, weight on the balls of your feet, arms bent and beside the shoulder area to help with the drive up, and eyes on the ball at all times.
It's that dynamic takeoff that is so important. I see too many circle players standing tall, all stretched up, thinking that if they are just tall that will do. In low grades maybe, but in the higher grades you will have to jump to get it.
Make sure your players are trying to catch with 2 hands to get the ball too. Tipping is not a guarantee to keep the ball for your team. Catching is what must be the priority.
So all I can suggest is to do drills on jumping; skipping ropes are good to get the legs ready to jump, and lots of practice under the hoop. Progressively you would start with the throwing the ball straight up in the air, and they catch it as high up as they can, then have it contested between 2 of them, then under the ring, then add players to defend the shot, block the player with your body, and then get yourself ready for the rebound.
hope that helps.
in more ways than one
Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
