Does anyone have drills that incoprate passing accuracy and footwork?
I use the wall and mark an "X" or 2 on it. The girls stand in a line each facing the wall and try to hit the spot, then the line moves and they are all in different spots each time. Another one is the girls line up about 3 feet from the wall initially and throw the ball to the wall and then run to the back of the line and the next girl in line should catch it and do the same. This is really fast and the line tends to move further from the wall. Throws need to be hard and accurate to rebound to the next in line. They need to move sideways and have fast feet for this so they get out of the way of the rebounding ball.
Thanks heaps Jod,
I can try out but that means i would need a wall. Any drills when i dont have a wall as training is often done in a grass field.
Cheers,
Pat
Another one I do is using 4 cones to make a square of about 3 metres x 3 metres, make sure you have at least one girl on each corner and put remaining girls behind each one - this doesn't have to be even to work which is good. The girls have to run to the next cone clockwise and the 1st thrower throws the ball as the runner reaches the middle of the 2 cones she is running between and she passes to the next runner who runs to the next cone, after they have thrown the ball they line up behind the line or cone they are running towards. This helps girls to throw accurately and quite fast too and it also can teach them to pass just out in front of their teammate. Once they master this in close, then move the cones further out for longer passing. Hope this was explained properly - it is really simple to do, just not explain!!
in more ways than one
No more 50/50 toss-ups. When simultaneous infringements occur, possession now goes to the team that last had the ball. Here's what it means for your coaching.
Train your defenders to win clean turnovers, not just disrupt. The difference between good defenders and great ones is taking the ball, not just touching it.
