I'm coaching the very young team yr 1-3 age 6-9 and was wondering what's the best drills to teach them ball skills passing quick and basic rules? Thanks Mikaela
there wil be some good drills in the netsetgo websites for netball australia. i coach 4-6yr olds, and tend to do basic ball skills to teach them to catch with confidence using non netballs (ie the soft balls with bumps on them or even bean bags) footwork drills ie game of elastics, use of floor ladders, running around cones, using a netball to bounce between 2 players making sure they are catching the ball from away from their body with correct hands, and passing correctly (ie not passing with hands under ball and throwing in an upward direction), once they can catch you can get them to run and jump into a hoop and catch, basic defence, playing games where they pass down the line pivoting to catch the ball, game of dodge using yoga balls, passing in windows and throwing the ball into the air and catching it, then with a clap or two, or a full pivot, and doing the same with a bounce in front of them. all fun ways to teach them ball and footwork skills.
