Coaching points for stage 1 defence

It this shown as being ball side on is this the same thing think I have got confused?

im not sure what you mean?  being ballside and basic defence are different techniques.  ballside is just always having yourself between the ball and your player.

defence can be a bit like this, but you can also be putting your body between your player and the goal ring, or your player and another player.  it depends on what you are trying to keep a player away from.  

generally being ballside is for when you wish to be receiving the ball, where as defence is about stopping someone from getting into a certain area, or position.
