Any ideas on controling footwork with 8yr olds?? I am co coaching a team of mixed first timers etc and we are getting a lot of stepping coming through at training, then in our half court games it runs rampant.... Have covered the pivoting, twist and go but they just cant seem to stop? Maybe I'll get them to run at a wall and see if they figure it out then....
There are few good ways. Try%3A 1. Getting players to run towards a line, jump and land on two feet, step one foot forward (as if they were over balancing) and then bring it back level with the other foot. 2. Tell them pivoting is like being a ballet dancer, which will get them up on the ball of their foot. 3. Tell them they can't have any fairy feet. 4. Call out STOP, BREATHE, PASS everytime a player receives the ball. The most important thing is to have strict, consistent umpires that pick them up EVERY TIME they step (even the little steps). Good Luck JUde
in more ways than one
The early 'shoot from anywhere' era is over. Smart teams now use data-driven decision models to decide when the two-pointer is worth it.
The short pass is being penalised more consistently in 2026. Here's how to train proper passing technique and eliminate hand-offs under pressure.
No more 50/50 toss-ups. When simultaneous infringements occur, possession now goes to the team that last had the ball. Here's what it means for your coaching.
