My U14's could not get free on a Goal line throw in.
I need practices for Goal Defenders (GD), wing defenders (WD) to get free to receive a pass from the goal Keeper (GK).
With the second pass to the centre (C) or back to the GK.
Thank you
Angie.

Ensure that your GD and WD have good body position, using a strong body position is key for creating space especially around the circles. Let your GD and WD know not to get trapped at the top of the circle as this allows the opposition to cover all options available to the GK. If for example the throw in is from the GD side, your GD can back off towards the corner of the goal third and drive strongly towards the top of the circle, then dodge towards pocket to receive pass. An alternative could also be to teach your gd and wd a holding position to receive the pass. If your defences hold tightly behind their opponents, the GK can throw to the space directly behind the defence player. Your centre should be in the centre third so there is no crowding inside the goal third. Once the gd has the ball, then the wd and C drive to space giving the gd 2 options for the next pass. I really hope you can make sense of what I am trying to say, if not, let me know and I will upload a pictorial of what I mean. Cheers %3A) Kylie

try and tell the WD to stay on the centre circle so her player doesnt get in front of her even make the centre do that. The make the keeper sprint to the transverse line and let her get the ball straight away. hope this works for you. good luck %3A)
in more ways than one
Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
