DESCRIPTION

  • Start with two even teams.
  • Object is for attacking team to score a try without getting tagged.
  • Attack tap and go from the 22m line.
  • Any player tagged in possession or any try scored leads to the end of the attack.
  • If the defense was successful, one defending player becomes an attacker for the next attempt.
  • If the attack was successful, one attacking player decomes a defender for the next attempt.
  • The passage of attempts will lead to various scenarios with overloaded defences, attacks and matched numbers all occuring.
  • After a number of attempts reset to even teams and swap the starting defensive and attacking sides.

COACHING POINTS

Attack side - watch for

  • Communication
  • lines of running
  • catch / pass executed
  • recognising and executing overlaps in overload attack
  • reload and support against overload defense

Defense Side - watch for

  • Communication
  • Line speed and pressure
  • positioning
  • "defensive read"
  • staying in the game
  • work rate
