3 on 1 – Initiating the Touch

DESCRIPTION

  • Drill Description: 3 offensive players, 1 defensive player (rotate). 3 offensive players start on end line of grid. 1 defensive player starts at 5m line of grid. Offense player’s objective is to initiate the touch and beat defender to the next 5 m line, use same movement as drill 2. Defence attempts to tag player with ball and get back 5m OFFSIDE RULE. 

COACHING POINTS

  • Stepping – Hips square and front on. Leading leg is placed straight on and all weight is put onto that leg. The lead leg extends and push off the ball of the foot to a different direction. Shoulders rotate away from defender. Accelerate at a new angle (School Curriculum and Standards Authority, 2011). 
  • Effecting a touch (defender) – Lower body position. Accelerate towards attacking player, eyes focussed on the target. Hand nearest to the player makes the touch(School Curriculum and Standards Authority, 2011). 
  • Effecting a touch – Place the arm out closest to the defender and touch within the correct area.
  • Passing – Ball is held with two hands and fingers are spread. Torso rotates to build momentum for the pass. Flexion of the wrists directs the ball to the receiver. Outside hand rotates over the ball to make it spiral. Arms follow through with fingers pointing towards receiver (School Curriculum and Standards Authority, 2011).
  • Catching – Watch the ball into the body (giving)
