Equipment;
6 markers
- 4 markers 2x trylines
- 2 markers half way line
1 rugby ball
10 players.
- 5 players per team.
Two hand touch.
Aim: A mini game for fitness. The aim is to get players working off the ball in a fun manner. To score a try place the ball on the ground in the opposing teams tryline.
Rules:
- Attacking team is always scoring a try towards the tryline that is the furthest away from them.
- Field flips if a turnover leads to a team playing to a short tryline. This ensures the attacking team is playing to the long tryline (first pass- still applies)- Unless there is an intercept.
- Two hand tag. One hand does not count.
- Each team has two tags on the second tag they must hand the ball over to the opposing team.
- First pass: must go backwards even after a tag. Defenders must give attacking players 3 metres of space during first pass, after first pass play on.
- The remainder of your passes can go forward.
- No loopy/overhead passes: Turn over if passes are overhead. Tic tac your way up to the scoring line with short accurate passes. Long passes that are flat and hit the chest are definitely allowed.
- No drop balls: any drop ball backwards/ forwards results in a turnover.
-Halfway: To score a try in your opposing teams tryline all your team mates must be in the opposing half with you.
-Once attacking team scores a try the field flips, attacking team keeps the ball and now you must score at the opposite tryline. First pass - still applies.
One point per try. The team with the most points wins.
I am looking for high work rate off the ball.
- Attackers playing short passes to support players running into space.
-Using two players to pass to each other to avoid a defender.
- long passes are flat and hits the chest of an opposing player. (no overhead-loopy passes).
- Support players running away from defender.
- Defenders communicating with each other to point out who they are marking. Defenders following one attacker.
- Defenders looking to intercept passes and play towards the field.

The isolated ball carrier is rugby's spookiest turnover. Here is the five-step fix, plus drills that rebuild support lines fast.
Tacklers are aiming lower, so carriers who dip late put heads at risk. Teach footwork, a strong early body height and leg drive to win the collision safely.
The hooker's brake foot moved from trial into full law in July 2026. Here is how to coach it so your front row stays stable, legal and safe.
