Setting the wall at the breakdown - defense

I am so pleased with all of the drills and advice on rugby. I am a...
Mokie, Rugby Coach

DESCRIPTION

Coach calls a color, that is where the breakdown occurred.

Wall has to be set by the time the coach counts down to 0.
First phase starts at 5 second countdown.
Progression is down to 3 second countdown.
Scrumhalf can pass to attack side at 0 when the wall launches.
Goal is to pressure attacking side. Attack is just simply trying to make as many passes as possible before defensive line meets up with attack.

COACHING POINTS

Don’t necessarily need an attack side but we have so many people we might have to.
No tackling, just a “MY HIT” and shoulder wrap.
Coach calls a color immediately after lines meet.
Lather, rinse repeat.
After 4-5 rounds, switch sides.
*color does not have to go forward (green, red, blue, yellow) can send everyone back; basically, any combination (from green to
blue, to red, to blue to yellow and if you’re sadistic, back to green.
