how can i intercept ? what are some things I would need to do to make it better and not fail?
Hi,
This link helps explain the basic principles of an interception. When going for an interception it is important you try to cut the line of the ball and do not intercept the ball AT the player as you are likely to cause contact. To improve your chances at intercepting the ball, firstly dictate your opponent. This means keeping your player where you want them, usually high up court away from their shooting end and wide towards the sideline. This will put pressure on both the ball carrier and attacker, making an error more likely. It is also important for you to maintain a narrow footbase so you can move off quickly to go for the interception.
Try not to think of missing an interception as 'failing' as each time you can learn from it - for example you may have miss timed your move or miss judged the speed of the ball for example. Regardless, it is crucial you keep confident and keep trying. It can be deflating missing an interception but quickly get back on your player and try again. Remember it only takes one interception to change a game.
Hope this helps.
thank you :)

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
