I have always been a one on one GK when defending and recently I have been told to look at zone defence. I am just wondering the easiest way to learn zone defence or any drills that may help
When you say zone defence do you mean defending space, or zoning/blocking/holding? The difference being defending space is when you and GD have an area within the circle that you defend no matter who goes into it. You are no longer only looking after your GS but whoever comes into your area. It requires a lot more talking between you and the GD and can be very effective provided both of you do your job. only really works when the two of you are doing it.
zoning/blocking/or holding are terms used to keep your opponent in a particular part of the court. maybe the GD will help double team with you until the GA tries to get into the circle then the GD or you will peel off and keep the GA out. This can also be done by the WD or C to keep a 2 on one situation in the circle.
depending on which one you are talking about will depend on which drills you will want to do. But your GD will need to be on board if you want to defend space.
