What should I do on a first coaching session ? I don't want the girls to get bored, i want them to want to come back next week.
Always need to warmup before any training session and games. Come up with 2 that involve movements that players will be using on court eg. side 2 side movements/driving forward/fast feet on spot 5sec/backpedalling along lines and using all areas of the court gets the players more familiarise with the court. 4 basic skills needed to play netball is - 1. Balance 2. Landing 3.Footwork 4. Ball handling. Incorportate each slowly until all can ATLEAST do the skill correctly (donot carry on with the next skill to quickly as you will have problems later on). example%3A Teaching a player how to land correctly and she is still having problems with it. think of another way to show her, give examples where players would see themselves use a specific skill on court.keep encouraging players.explain what the training session involves and what skills you are looking at teaching today.dont bring in to many skills as this will confuse players. 2 skills at a time is fine. depends what level you are coaching at. Hope this helps in some way. there is so much to learn but the rewards are wonderful
I believe warm up is the foremost thing to do in any training sessions. However to make it more interesting during the warm up, put the players in pairs and introduced a warm up that involves both players to participate, eg. hips touching, knee tapping down/up the court. It will be fun and the players will enjoyed it. Later on introduce to them the proper ball handling and proper way of landing. It depends on what group you are taking but this is the basic netball training. I hope this helps.
