It depends on the umpire I guess, and depends if it looks like the shooter did it on purpose or not as well.

Usually shooters do that to signal the defence is interferring with the shot, either way if the shooter dropped the ball as a result, the GK or GD will be penalised correct distance or not. A majority of the time the defence will have their hands over the shooters eyes or ball leaving the shooter no choice but to contact, so the umpire uses discretion on whats fair and reasonable. In saying that, if they don't call a contact, a good stretch and hold will result in a held ball. Goal defensive players always have it tough, in my opinion its propbably the most technical as well as most tactical positions on court.
