Can anyone assist me with some drills to perfect the split landing in the circle. I have a couple of shooters who are moving their grounded foot and getting stepping calls. How to we perfect the 2 grounded feet split landing.Cheers Kristy
Hi Kristy,
Personally, I believe it is difficult to come up with a drill for split landings as they come with practice. However, if your girls are completing a split landing correctly, both feet should be landing at the same time, allowing the shooter to choose which foot to move, whilst not doing footwork. Your girls may be doing footwork due to not getting enough height when receiving the ball to complete the split landing or the timing of their split jump may be slightly off, resulting in footwork - it is hard to say without seeing it myself.
However, I would suggest simply getting some feeders on the edge of the circle to repeatedly feed balls in or practising during half court, that when the ball enters the circle the shooter practices her split landing, landing both feet at the same time. I would advise first completing this unmarked with no defence and once your girls become more confident you can add in defenders.
Hope this helps.
