Hi I have looked and looked but cannot find a definitive answer on fair team rotation. I have a team of 13-14 year olds and there are 9 in the team. There is one girl who cannot/will not play any other position other than WA, so I am very limited with where I can place her. My theory has always been that you shouldn't make too many changes, however, these kids expect court time... How can I manage them fairly?
Well my opinion is don`t let one little girl tell you the coach that she wont play in any other position. You are the coach and you need to tell her nicely that it would be more beneficial to her if she learns another position as well as wing attack as that limits her as a player. Unfortunately you shouldn`t let the children tell you what they want. I would play 8 for 3/4 game and 1 for full game. Every week go in alphabetical order and that will determine who has a full game. No you shouldn`t make too many changes in that age group as it will have an impact on your game but on saying that I have always taught my girls at least 2 positions on the court. Good luck.

Thanks Kerri, I totally agree. This is a very new girl to netball who doesn`t know how to play anywhere else. We are working on her confidence though!
Rotating in alphabetical order will work for me sometimes but not all the time unfortunately. I will just continue to plod along with what has been working so far, and that is me positioning them before the day using my spreadsheet.
Funny how this age group still ask to play certain positions that they aren`t really suited to, and they think that I`ll cave in to their demands... ha ha - nice try!
in more ways than one
Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
