We are a very small club, only 10 to 15 players and range from complete beginners to quite skilled players. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can keep all our players motivated and move everyone forward? Should we separate different abilities or mix everyone up and hope for the best? Thanks
Hi Georgie,
i have just taken over coaching at a back to netball club and had this very same problem! The way i am trying keep everyone motivated is by doing some really fun things to start off with which dont take much skill and get them warmed up!! (like follow the leader and ball tag etc!)
Then if i want to work on specific skills, i pick smaller things for them to do in pairs or 3's and you tend to find players of the same level will join together, this then helps you to go round the whole session and give them advice without it being in front of the whole group and some of the more skilled players. Sometimes group drills can be quite daunting for beginners i have found! when playing a match at the end i do mix them up...then assess the match ups as the game goes on maybe swap a few round if it's too one sided! then i try to play the team that will play the matches for the last 10 mins or so and explain to the group that this is to work on stuff for the match - they seem fairly happy with that!
Hope this helps! There are some great drills on here for bringing on players of all levels! Even skilled players could do with going over some basics every now and then!!

Thanks very much, we'll give it a go!

Split circle defence is the system the top three NSL teams have built their identity around in 2026. The Goal Keeper and Goal Defence divide the circle into zones, switch in synchrony, and make every passing option look risky. Here is how to coach it.
Most netball shooters know how to shoot. The difference at the top is who can shoot when it counts. A structured 10-minute pre-game mental routine is the most under-used performance tool in club netball - and it is the simplest to teach.
The best Goal Defences in the 2026 NSL season are intercepting more than ever. The reason is not raw athleticism. It is a deliberate shift from chasing the attacker to driving into the flight path of the ball. Here is how to coach it.
