Morning - Can you please tell me, is there a rule to prevent this? Where a GK or GD is defending a goal, can they hold one another back by their t-shirts thus allowing them a further reach? For instance, the GK grabs the GD's tshirts to that she may lean further over, enabling her hand to go right over the ball, as they are so tall already? Thanks!!
It's a perfectly legal move - the only way to prevent it is for the other shooter (the one not shooting!) to get in front of her defender (which ideally is where she should be anyway for the rebound!) and use her body to stop her defender from being able to reach the other defender's leg / clothing etc. (make sure she's careful not to push back into her defender or she'll get done for contact). The other answer is if both defenders are busy defending the same shot your other shooter is free for a pass off & quick shot (before the defenders get the chance to re-position & set up again). And lastly - in training & warm up get your shooter's used to stepping back and shooting accurately balanced on one leg. Any or a combination of these should help I hope!
Yes this is a legal move. I coach an 14/15A side that utilise this move very effectively. It not only keeps them balanced but it also at times allows them to get rebounds and dominate the space under the post. It also allows them time to hold their 3 feet for longer without falling in and getting a penalty.
Thank you so much to both of you! I didn't want to buy the Rule book just for that one question.. Both our shooters are short and the defence were tall, so because they were doing that, they were actually able to block alot of the goals and instantly get the ball... needless to say it's very frustrating. I will take what you said La, on board and try to get the other shooter in between. Thanks again!
My GD did that to me on the weekend - just make sure they grab your shirt and not your skirt!!!!
