I am looking for some advice on being a better GD. Any advice out there will be greatly appreciated. Also some strategies on the defense side for GK, WD. Question submitted from "Sportplan Netball" on Facebook, by Inge Kruse.
Being a better GD the advice you need to have will be the types of defence you are using! On the run you need to be in stage 1 of defence so you are close to the attacker at a 45 degree angle so you can see the ball and player! Beware of the high balls going over you! When in the Shooting semi, do defence stage 2 this is the lean and jump! Position your feet before putting your hands up otherwise you will give away a free penalty pass or shot which you do not want! On a backline pass defend the ball and keep a eye for a high ball make sure you can stretch back to tip the ball! Also in defence if your players goes out the circle try to keep her back out this will make it hard for the other shooter as noone will be there for rebound.
GD... you need to have great elevation and timing.i say 1.outrun your opponent. 2.outwit your opponent.3. always be 1 step ahead of your opponent and beat her to the free space. Recommend to watch the top netball players in the world and gain some insight and skills from them. I love to play defence. when im GD in midcourt its good to stay off player, and allow your self to watch everything that is happening up court. Always keep your head up (never drop head) always keep feet moving and arms ready to intercept those passes. it takes afew min to pick up on yr opponents weeknesses and strenghts so work on those to your advantage.
